The Chattahoochee Band Program has had a busy start to 2017. Indoor Drumline and Winterguard have been rehearsing long hours and are well into their competition seasons. Band Classes will be preparing their music selections for LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluations) at the end of February. We are also already starting to plan for next years Marching Season. Saturday Feb 25th is the Southern Association of Performance Arts or SAPA Winter Indoor Guard Show – Look for emails asking for lots of volunteers to help us host this prestigious event at CHS. There are over 50 Winterguard groups from the Metro Atlanta Area competing and tickets are only $9. It’s going to be a great show!
Each year the CHS Marching Band invites the 8th Graders from Taylor Road Middle School to join them in the stands and play for a football game. Last night we hosted 78 8th graders and in spite of the evening starting out in the rain, the night was a success. The 8th graders brought their instruments and shadowed their high school counterparts through rehearsals, dinner from Carmine’s Pizza, dressing out, marching to the field, and playing stand tunes for the football game. It was a perfect opportunity for them to see what it means to be part of the Chattahoochee Band Family. We hope that all of the 8th graders join our Marching Band and/or Concert Band when they come to CHS as 9th graders. Photos from the night are on our Photos Page.
What a night! The truck carrying the props and instruments broke down at Kroger. An email was sent out asking for help to unload it and reload into a Uhaul. Lots of band parents and siblings, concert parents and even Alumni parents showed up. The trucks arrived at the competition just in time to quickly unload, set-up and get on the field. After all of that, our marching band performed a great show and took home 2nd place for Percussion, Guard, and Band and 3rd for Drum Major. All of the people and support surrounding this band makes this the best band in the land. More photos from the day are on the Photos Page.
After this weekend, there are only 8 more Verizon shows left for the season. The 2017 season will start again in the Spring.
This means there are 8 more shows to earn money toward:
a) Any outstanding fees
b) Winter band programs
c) Spring band trip
d) Next year’s band fees.
As you all noticed this year the shows early in the season are fully staffed quickly, so it is a smart idea to work the end of the season shows to get ahead on next year’s band fees.
Also, there is not a 2 person per student limit on these final shows.
Please note, we are contractually obligated to staff these shows. We want to make sure we keep this fundraiser for future years.

This week the student’s should have brought home a packet regarding the Yankee Candle fundraiser.
Within the packet is a catalog of candles that are for sale and a traditional order form. You might bring this to your office or share with your neighbors.
Another way to let friends and family know about the candles and allow them to place an order is through the website. It is fairly simple to set up.

In the center of the home page you will find a box titled Start Shopping. In that box is a link that reads Create SELLER login.
Fill in the Sign Up to be a Seller section. The group number is 990098674
Once you have set up your seller login you have the option to add names and emails of friends and family who would want to buy from you as well as share on Twitter and Facebook. You will also be able to login and track all your online sales.
There is also a mobile app. Go to the Google Play or Apple store and find the Yankee Fundraiser. Setting up the mobile app is similar to setting up the website app. With the mobile app you can text your friends and family a link to buy the candles.
How much will you raise? Yankee Candle gives 40% of all sales. For all fundraisers the band splits the money 10% to the general band fund and 90% to the student accounts.
The holidays are right around the corner and everyone loves candles.
The Pickens County High School Band members were great hosts and let us come in out of the rain to eat our sandwiches when we arrived. The rain stopped and after a good rehearsal the band played stand tunes while the football team scored 2 touchdowns. Go Hooch! During the halftime show the band performed Moondance and Starry Starry Night and finished off with the Chattahoochee Fight Song. After a great run, the band gathered at the sideline to watch the Pickens High School Band perform their show. We have a nice group of musicians this year and we are looking forward to a fantastic Marching Season. More Pictures.
